Traveling can be expensive, if you let it be. Implement theses tactics to save some coin next time you travel.

Pack Light

Packing light can be liberating but it can also save you money. Some airlines allow you to check a bag; think about it though, do you really need to pack a 50 pound bag for a week-long trip? Sure we want to have 3 outfits per day, extra shoes, a coat in case it gets cold…even though you’re going to a beach. The reality is, you won’t use more than half of it, so why carry it? Instead, learn how to pack light and try to do carry-on only. This way, as soon as you get off the plane you can start exploring instead of waiting for your bag at baggage claim. Plus, no lost bags!

Bring a reusable water bottle

Water bottles are expensive. Like $4 per bottle expensive! Not only that, but plastic is bad for the environment. Bring your own water bottle to fill up wherever you go. You’ll save some money and also, be doing your part to help our environment.

Travel in shoulder seasons

Traveling during peak seasons means you pay peak prices. Airfare, Hotel and activities are all pricier during this time. Instead, look to travel the month before or after peak season to enjoy discounted rates. Many times, peak seasons are the time with the best weather. By going during the shoulder season, you’ll be able to take advantage of similar weather without the expense. Also, you’ll avoid the crowds and take better selfies!

Bring snacks/free breakfast

Bringing a few snacks can help curb hunger on long days of travel or exploring a new city. Some good snacks to bring are:

  • Granola Bars
  • Trail Mix
  • Peanut Butter
  • Fruit

Also, when planning accommodations, look to see if breakfast is included. Even if you don’t eat everything they have, there may be some fruit that you can grab on your way out to pack for later or it can be a great place to fill up your water bottle before you leave.

Use Travel Apps

Travel Apps are a great way to save money when booking. You can shop around travel dates to see what’s cheapest. Some apps even give you a rating to show if the airfare you’re looking to book is a good deal or not. Our favorite apps are:

  • Google Flights
  • Skyscanner
  • Expedia
  • Airbnb

Look, I understand that these tips may be a bit extreme for most people. But I ask you to consider implementing a few of these tips so it will help your travel be a bit less stressful. Happy Travels!
